Our thanks to Sharon Montoya Bretz and Kris Thoren for their enlightening presentation on "disaster preparation for your livestock" at our last General Meeting on August 4, 2016. It was very well received, offering important information on what one needs to do to be prepared in a disaster.

SMC Large Animal Evacuation Group

The group also provides preparedness workshops upon request.

SMC LAEG is an all volunteer group that activates when called upon by the San Mateo County Office of Emergency Services or other emergency county agency.

California Water Service (Calwater) will be installing a new 12-inch water main on Cañada Road (from Runnymede Road to Laning Drive)There will be heavy equipment used for this construction so equestrians with horses that have high sensitivity may want to use a different route.

The project will redirect one lane of south bound traffic including the bike lane for approximately (300-400 feet at a time) for installation of the pipe.  There will be a flagger on each end of the closure to direct traffic through the construction zone.  Construction of the pipe is located entirely in the Cañada Road roadway/bikelane and should not directly impact the trails.  However, there will be large equipment and perhaps loud equipment for the installation of the new line.  The contractor has been advised to keep the trail along Cañada Road open at all times and not to block the trail with equipment or staging.

The project is expected to last until the end of January.  Works hours for this project are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Here is a detailed project schedule:

  • Saw cutting to start on 11/23/15
  • Excavation and Pipe installation to start on 11/30/15
  • Final trench paving to be completed by 1/30/16
