The Woodside-area Equestrian Merit Scholarship Award

The Mounted Patrol Foundation and the Woodside-area Horse Owners Association (WHOA!) offer a yearly scholarship, the $10,000 Woodside-area Equestrian Merit Scholarship Award, jointly sponsored by the two organizations for a local high school senior with a demonstrated involvement in equestrian activities as well as academic achievement and community service.

Both the Mounted Patrol Foundation and WHOA! share a deep interest in the next generation of equestrians, as well as a commitment to helping them achieve worthwhile goals, through each organizations’ ongoing activities and now through their joint sponsorship of the $10,000 Woodside-area Equestrian Merit Scholarship Award.

3 Woodside Horses Win National Honors 2018

At the conclusion of each year, the top scoring horse in each United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) category of competition is named “Horse of the Year.” This year – 2018, three horses owned by Woodside residents have won a total of four Horse of the Year titles, three in vaulting and one in jumping.

SMC Large Animal Evacuation Group

Our thanks to Sharon Montoya Bretz and Kris Thoren for their enlightening presentation on “disaster preparation for your livestock” at our last General Meeting on August 4, 2016. It was very well received, offering important information on what one needs to do to be prepared in a disaster.

SMC Large Animal Evacuation Group

The mission of the San Mateo County Large Animal Evacuation Group (SMC LAEG) is to provide qualified large animal handlers and horse trailers in emergency situations; to evacuate large animals in any degree disaster or emergency, to lessen the burden on Emergency Services. The group also provides preparedness workshops upon request.

SMC LAEG is an all volunteer group that activates when called upon by the San Mateo County Office of Emergency Services or other emergency county agency.
