Taube Family Carriage House – SMC History Museum

Opening in 2026, The Taube Family Carriage House will house historic American horse-drawn carriages illuminating the Peninsula’s great estates era.

Minimum goal:  $50,000

We invite you to join us in preserving and showcasing the rich and diverse equestrian history in San Mateo County.  The stunning Taube Family Carriage House, now under construction at the San Mateo County Museum in Redwood City will house equestrian legacies and fascinating histories.

Lurline Matson Roth
One of these legacies was created by Lurline Matson Roth.  In 1975 she deeded her famed Woodside Estate, Filoli, to the National Trust for Historic Preservation.  Her Brewster Carriages, historic treasures from the Great Estates Period, were donated to the San Mateo County Historical Association.

Her wish was for the community to enjoy and learn about these beautifully crafted horse drawn carriages.  That wish came to fruition when Mr. Tad Taube generously donated initial funds to build a Carriage House contiguous with the Museum and Courthouse in Redwood City.

The WHOA Foundation Inc, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, invites you to participate in this rich local history by contributing to The WHOA Foundation Inc earmarked for the Carriage House Project.

Your gift will be incorporated into WHOA!’s contribution and acknowledged on the Museum’s donor wheel for major gifts.  Your contribution will also be individually listed here on the WHOA! website.  See more about the WHOA Foundation Inc >
