The Woodside-area Horse Owners Association (WHOA!) donations are continuing to enhance the historic Folger Stable located in San Mateo Countyʼs Wunderlich Park.

Folger Stable is home to privately owned horses boarded there by their owners, as well as horses available to the public for lessons and trail rides. This variety of horses and riding activities highlighted the need for additional storage for grooming and riding equipment consistent with the elegant, renovated stable.

With the enthusiastic approval of the San Mateo County Parks, WHOA! sponsored the design of a custom storage trunk, and donated the first four trunks to the County, to be used by boarders at Folger Stable. The idea and design for the new trunks evolved from suggestions that the renovated stabling deserved storage trunks that reflected the beautiful appointments of the original stable. 

The tack trunksʼ elegant design was a collaborative effort. Logo graphics were created by Yvonne Kerno of Enaria – Web and Print Communications, who incorporated the image of the main barn, the heritage oaks of the park and a modern riding horse to represent the essence of both the Stable in Wunderlich County Park and the activities that occur there. Nicole McDevitt of Carousel Saddlery in Portola Valley worked with trunk manufacturer Phoenix West to select the materials and the color scheme as a donation of their time and effort. McDevitt, one of the first sponsors of WHOA’s Woodside Day of the Horse, said she was pleased to be asked to assist in the design and distribution of the trunks. “They are one of the most beautiful trunks we have done,” she noted, adding that she is authorized to sell Folger Stable tack trunks to those who have to have their very own. Other boarders at the facility, and generous sponsors who would like to donate trunks to the stable, are encouraged to contact Nicole, as are riders who simply love the design.

WHOA! unveiled the trunks at an informal gathering of volunteers last month, and is hoping that donors will come forward to help outfit all of the boarding stalls over time.
